Otoplasty, Ears

Am I the ideal candidate for otoplasty?

There are several variations of ear deformity, each of which needs to be treated differently. Generally, otoplasty is performed to correct the excessive protrusion of the ears and place them in a more normal position. Otoplasty is the surgery for protruding ears that show a certain form of unsightly congenital deformity. These imperfections vary between the folds of the anthelix, too wide retroauricular angles, and the voluminous concha. The surgical approach that can bring the necessary modification for this type of deformities is called otoplasty, allowing the correction of protruding or deformed ears. It is usually performed by a plastic surgeon, as they are the specialist able to provide you with the necessary care safely, and it is done in a perfectly equipped operating room of an accredited clinic.

Otoplasty Tunisia, surgery procedure:

This surgery lasts between one and two hours. It is generally performed under general anesthesia but can be done under local anesthesia. The incision is made behind the ear, allowing the surgeon to access the cartilage to reshape it and fix it under the skin with absorbable threads. If local anesthesia is used, the patient can go home a few hours after the operation; however, if general anesthesia is used, a two-day hospital stay is necessary before the patient can go home. The otoplasty operation lasts about 1.5 hours and is not painful. The procedure involves making an incision on the back of the ear, removing unsightly skin. The cartilage is exposed and thinned or cut so that the ear is placed in a normal position. A dressing is applied completely around the head so that both ears are protected, swelling is minimized, and discomfort is limited.

What to expect after surgery

Postoperative discomfort is almost absent. It is simply a short-term discomfort that can be easily relieved with painkillers. The dressings will be left in place for a period of 1 to 2 weeks and will be changed periodically by a nurse. When the bandages are removed, the ears will appear swollen and bluish (bruises). This type of mark is normal and will disappear after about 4 weeks. Slight swelling will be visible for a few weeks, and the sutures can be removed about 1 week after surgery. The patient will be able to resume light activities within a week. The surgeon will give advice on the level and type of activities allowed depending on the nature of the intervention performed.
